CDiG NEWSLETTER, MARCH, 2007

Student Certificates Completed in May, 2006

Three graduate students completed the CDiG Certificate in May, 2006 (two in Business and one in Textile & Apparel Management). Congratulations to those students and to their faculty advisors and mentors. Several students will be eligible for the certificate in the coming semesters.

Enrollment in CDiG Introductory and Capstone Classes

We are experiencing a healthy combined enrollment over 50 each year for the CDiG introductory class and capstone class. We also have visiting scholars from China sitting in on the classes this semester. Our students are in a variety of majors, adding much to the multidisciplinary nature of our courses.

Updated CDiG Web Site

So Yeon-Yoon of the Department of Architectural Studies designed a new CDiG web site in 2005. Laura Loesing has updated the content and added new information in the last year. Our site has updated information about courses and our graduate certificate. We are now linked to all CDiG faculty web sites. We also have more links to and from programs across campus. We have updated links to the Graduate School's certificates site, the Graduate School Catalog and the Course Description Catalog. More information is included on faculty projects to highlight grant related activities and student research.

Fall CDig Faculty Social

Our annual fall CDiG Faculty Social was held on September, 2006 in Cornell Hall. We enjoyed visiting, exchanging ideas, meeting new members and sharing CDiG pride points.

CDiG Faculty Research and Projects

CDiG grants have funded many worthwhile research projects and helped faculty attend national and international conferences.

This year So-Yeon Yoon of the Department of Architectural Studies purchased software for a virtual reality lab that will be used by individuals in several different departments. The lab should be up and running this semester. So-Yeon Yoon will present a one-hour virtual reality software demonstration to CDiG faculty on April 18, 2007 (Noon to 1:00 PM, 105 Cornell Hall).

CDiG faculty are conducting research projects in many programs across campus. Learn more about each CDiG affiliated faculty member's research interests and activities by clicking their faculty web page links beside their names on our CDiG Administration and Affiliated Faculty page.

CDiG travel funds have helped several faculty fellows attend conferences. This year Antonie Stam of the College of Business and Glen Cameron of the School of Journalism participated in the MU South Africa Exchange Program. Susan Wang of the Department of Geography attended a conference in Beijing on Global Climate Change. Kevin Wise of the School of Journalism attended a Psychophysiological research conference in Vancouver, Canada.

CDiG faculty have presented their research in many countries around the world, including South Africa, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Malaysia and China.

CDiG Director President of AEJMC

CDiG Director Wayne Wanta is currently serving as president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the largest journalism education association in the world with more than 3,700 members. Wayne has spread the word about the CDiG interdisciplinary mission at AEJMC national and international conferences during the last two years. Last summer Wayne spoke about CDiG at the annual conference of the Asian Media Information Centre in Penang, Malaysia. In March, 2007, Wayne spoke about the CDiG concept at a Porto, Portugal conference on professional integration of graduates in journalism and mass communication sciences. Wayne will talk about interdisciplinary education at the first-ever World Journalism Education Congress in Singapore this June, 2007.
